Okay, I don't even know where to start with these guys. Even though this right here is the beginning and the end, it's their anthology, every song they ever recorded. The first 14 tracks are right from their one and only infamous LP, Shmap'n Shmazz. The official title is almost to long to type(Burritos, Inspiration Point, Fork Balloon Sports, Cards In The Spokes, Automatic Biographies, Kites, Kung Fu, Trophies, Banana Peels We've Slipped On, And Egg Shells We've Tippy Toed Over).
I'm sure very few of you actually know the impact that this very young band had on independent music. This right here was the start, nobody had heard anything like this in 1994 (as a matter of fact the band started in 1989 but their full length wasn't released until then). If the name Tim, or Mike Kinsella rings a bell (American Football, Owls, Make Believe, Owen, Joan of Arc, Friend/Enemy etc.) then you should probably know that you are looking directly at their roots in this album. All of the guys were all still in highschool when this band took off (of course post highschool would find us an array of different projects and bands that would leave a mark on Independent music for ever I.E. American Football) But the blisteringly loud, incoherent, fast paced, beautifully and messily melodic Cap'n Jazz is still considered by most, the very very best of the 20 years and hundreds of albums these four guys would go off to make.
